Nyayo Tea Zones Joins National Effort to Restore the Mau Forest Complex

The Nyayo Tea Zones Climate Action team proudly joined His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto in a major tree-planting exercise aimed at restoring the Mau Forest Complex—one of Kenya’s most critical water towers. The event took place in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, marking another significant milestone in the nation’s ambitious drive toward environmental restoration and climate resilience.

Led by Board Chairman Joseph Gitonga and CEO David Chepkwony, the Corporation reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to environmental conservation by donating 300,000 tree seedlings to support the ongoing rehabilitation efforts at the Gacharage section of the forest. This donation follows an earlier contribution of 200,000 seedlings at the launch of the Adopt-a-Forest initiative at the Bararget section earlier in the month—bringing the total seedlings donated this month to half a million.

A Decade-Long Commitment to Forest Restoration

The tree-planting exercise is part of a broader 10-year rehabilitation program spearheaded by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change, which seeks to restore up to 33,000 hectares of the Mau Forest Complex. As one of Kenya’s vital ecosystems, the Mau plays a central role in regulating water flows, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining agriculture and livelihoods across multiple counties.

Nyayo Tea Zones is proud to be an active partner in this national effort. The Corporation has outlined an ambitious long-term plan: to plant and nurture 1 million tree seedlings every year as a direct contribution to the government’s 15 Billion Trees Initiative.

Championing Climate Action Through Reforestation

Environmental sustainability remains at the heart of Nyayo Tea Zones’ mandate. Through strategic partnerships, community engagement, and continuous investment in afforestation activities, the Corporation aims not only to restore forest cover but also to foster a culture of environmental stewardship across Kenya.

By participating in these restoration efforts, Nyayo Tea Zones continues to demonstrate that climate action is a shared responsibility—one that requires collaboration between government, corporations, communities, and individuals.

As the Adopt-a-Forest initiative gathers momentum, the Corporation remains committed to scaling up its conservation activities and playing a leading role in securing a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for generations to come.
